Q: Can I use my ATM card overseas?

A: Yes, your Whitney ATM card can be used at most ATMs overseas. Just look for the Pulse®, STAR® or Cirrus® network logos. Remember, your Whitney VISA® Check Card can also be used at all merchants who accept Visa. Before traveling overseas, it is highly recommended that you contact your Whitney Banker to inform Whitney's Credit Card and ATM unit of your expected itinerary and possible use of these cards overseas.  Failure to do so may result in your card being declined as a part of Whitney's anti-fraud and security protocols.

Q: If I use my ATM card internatioanlly, is the conversion rate comparable to the rate I would be charged in the U.S. or at a bank?

A: Yes, the conversion rates are usually very comparable.

Q: Can Whitney wire funds anywhere around the globe?  If so, how fast does it get to the destination?

A: The Whitney can wire money to any part of the world that is allowable by law. The amount of time it takes to reach the beneficiary's account varies from country to country and may be anywhere from one to five days.

Q: Can I get a check issued in a foreign currency?

A: Yes, the Whitney can issue a foreign draft [check] in 37 currencies to any Whitney customer.

Q: Can I use my personal Whitney checks to make overseas payments?

A: Yes, provided the foreign recipient agrees. However, it is not advisable because the recipient's bank would have to send the check for collection often creating additional expense and delay on payment. The Whitney issues checks in foreign currencies drawn on banks overseas that can be used to pay your foreign obligations. Also, remember that your Whitney VISA® Check Card can be used all over the world where Visa is accepted.

Q: Can I receive wires in foreign currancies and have them converted to U.S. dollars and deposited in my account at the Whitney?

A: Yes.  The Whitney's foreign Exchange Department can assist you in receiving  and converting currency wires.  Please contact your Whitney Banker for instructions on receiving foreign currency payments.
